Merindar2019-Buchareststatus: work-in-progress&#38;nbsp;team: Anca Cioarec, Brîndușa Tudor, Ana Arsene, Milena Popa


Merindarul or ‘the house of food’ for passers-by is an object present in the rural romanian space, built on the property limit, hosting a potential dialogue between the outside and the inside. It is part of the limit, a moment of transgressing it. First, the limit separates the two worlds and then it proposes moments of crossing or dialogue. Like the doors, windows and thresholds,&#38;nbsp;Merindarul is a pause in the limits narative, maybe the most generous one.
Merindar could be a facilitator of managing our shared resources in the public space today. 

It is an open invitation to reuse, recycle and to generously give away the excedentary objects that populate or lives, coming from overcrowded kitchen cupboards, desks, wardrobes, bookshelves, storages or toy boxes. 

It proposes moments of reflection towards our perception of waste and when one’s useless could be useful to someone else.

It also proposes moments of care and attention to our natural resources, by creating simple ways of collecting rainwater or ripe apples and cherries, reflecting upon what could streetfood might be tomorrow for all the citizens that populate our urban spaces today being them humans, birds, bees or cats and dogs.

It is a place of exchange that celebrates the act of giving and receiving. 

It is an anti-consummerist happening in the city.

Merindar aims to be the pretext for building a generous community&#38;nbsp;through a network of moments of connection between givers and receivers. It also aims to celebrate the joy of microarchitecture by designing and building small houses of gift together with kids, students, young architects and anyone interested, through experiments with materials and building techniques.

 *Merindar is a project that continues the theme of the Metakitchen project (our entry for competition for the Romanian Pavilion in the Venice Biennale in 2018, along with the curator Anca Verona Mihuleț)
**During Street Delivery Quinet we had the first workshop with young kids where we tried to define a possible matrix for givers and receivers, possible functions and we intuitively modelled together with clay the first merindars. 
***Ana is a design student in Rennes and during her two weeks observation practice in our studio, she illustrated the typologies developed at the workhop.

The workshop is part of the BAUBAU – BAUHAUS 100 BUCUREȘTI
program.


We talk about the Bauhaus and the Romanian modernism
starting from two big themes: Bauhaus as a living legacy and the modernist
heritage (in Romania).


It is organized by the Goethe-Institut, Zeppelin and
Stardust Architects and it brings together 15 students from the faculties of
architecture and art and three tutors: the performer FaridFairuz, the artist
Kristin Wenzel and the graphic designer Radu Manelici. It’s
hapenning during one week in one of the studios of the ’Ion Mincu’ University, where
the coordinators and students meet daily, and it crosses several medias and
disciplines.


The workshop is a framework for investigation. What did
the Bauhaus school mean and what does it mean today? What can we borrow,
recover, reintegrate, reinvent? We ask the question and we don't rush for an
answer. We give ourselves time to continue asking and reformulating our
questions today, one hundred years later in the architecture school in
Bucharest.


We look closely at the influences of modernism in the
local architecture, towards a neglected heritage in an accelerated state of
degradation. How should we look at it and how should we learn to care? Playfully
and a little bit scared, we confront the Baubau of the modernist heritage! We
propose a narrative thread: to explore the buildings near the Architecture University
designed by Marcel Iancu, architect, painter, essayist.
We let ourselves discover new working tools. We start with
the body. We become aware of a vertical axis that extends the spine, vertebra by
vertebra. We pay attention to the others, we move faster and faster, and we
write down everything we think about the Bauhaus. Then we close our eyes and we
open our other senses, we let ourselves be guided and we learn to trust. We
reach Hristo Botev number 34 and there, on the corner of the Solly Gold
building, we read. We continue. For two days we move, we expand and we let
ourselves available. We feel the space with the body. We interact, we react. We
build dialogues between the built body and our own body. We empathize.


Then we look closer and closer. We look&#38;nbsp; for
details, for certain textures and curves or maybe for some missing finishes.


We look at accidents, at broken corners and we take
building pieces in pieces of clay. We play with presence and absence and we
make two silicone molds. One day we prepare our own soap. We add pigments,
essential oils and flower petals and we pour it into the molds. In thirty days
we will bring it inthe bathrooms of the University of Architecture. Then we
learn how to make chocolate.


We obtain details of iron works, plaster textures and a
plate with "letters" of dense chocolate. We taste it. We consume the
details. We feel the textures differently, with another sense.


And we narrate it graphically. We collect images,we
select them. We formulate texts, we synthesize, we outline a message in two. In
two days of graphic design module, two students think of two posters. We learn
to tell stories together.

The Bench 2x5 is an object designed and produced in 4 days by a group of 10 people. It appeared as part of the Close Spaces workshop curated by Vlad Albu and hosted by Salonul de Proiecte and it represented an instrument of questioning the mechanisms of negotiation of intimacy in public space. It is either a closed, circular object, or an open object made of 5 modules placed at a certain distance.

Each fragment was drawn by a team of two and it focused on a specific manner of sitting on a bench. They afterwards negotiated with the bench nearby in order to be able to sit properly one next to each other and, finally, the whole group analysed and decided upon the togetherness they have achieved by putting the pieces aside.

The bench was exhibited at Salonul de Proiecte in the Encountered Trajectories&#38;nbsp;exhibition (june 2020) and at the National Museum of Arts in the Shaping Design. Together exhibition (june 2021).

Metakitchen 2.0 is exhibited at Tranzit House in Cluj till the 25th of February and then it will move to Contemporar Gallery until the 9th of March. The installation was activated through workshops coordinated by Andreea Tron, Studio Fletta &#38;amp; Yrurari and Emese Apai. Metakitchen 2.0 was selected following the open call Sustainable Urban Living, organized by the Cluj Cultural Center.
